A two-story farmers market designed for a corner site, conceived as a covered public gathering space that balances open-air commerce with year-round amenities. The program includes a minimum of sixteen vendor stalls — eight of which open directly to the exterior — alongside a coffee shop, public restrooms, and a stage for local performances.
The Design The building occupies its corner site with an open, inviting presence, with the coffee shop anchoring the front and a fully open facade along the second side drawing visitors in from both streets. The interior structural frame is expressed throughout, with timber beams cut to 45-degree angles at their ends to evoke the feeling of a pergola — giving the market a warm, craft-oriented character appropriate to its program.
The Details Arched openings are used consistently throughout the design, adding rhythm and a sense of permanence to what might otherwise be a purely utilitarian structure. The central roof section is raised above the surrounding roofline, flooding the interior with natural light and giving the building a distinctive silhouette from the street.
